The 8th Investment Forum was held on September 7th and 8th 2015 in Tarnów. Grupa Azoty was the strategic partner of the Forum. One of the chief postulates formulated at the event was the need for commercial companies and local governments to cooperate. Used together, their potentials bring synergistic effects, benefiting all the stakeholders.
Three models of cooperation
According to research, three formulas of cooperation between the local government and businesses have evolved. The first one is sponsoring sports and cultural initiatives. This activity brings marketing advantages for the sponsor and the sponsored entity throughout the period when the agreement is valid.
Public-private partnerships are another model. All the parties contribute funds, and the common goal, such as road construction, brings long-term benefits for the investors as well as the local community.
The third method is the creation of Special Economic Zones and similar initiatives by the local government. In facilities of this kind, where advantageous conditions are available, businesses stand a good chance of developing rapidly, creating new jobs and attracting new investors.
At present Grupa Azoty cooperates with local governments utilizing each of those three platforms. We sponsor sportspeople (the speedway team in Tarnów, handball players in Puławy, the male volleyball team in Kędzierzyn-Koźle and the female volleyball team in Police), we support eduction (in Puławy, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Tarnów) and finance scholarships as well as job experience programs for the most talented pupils.
We are also involved in public-private partnership. The successful cooperation with Kędzierzyn-Koźle regional authorities provides a good example: we worked together to renovate Mostowa street. What is more, Grupa Azoty has taken advantage of benefits provided by Kraków Technology Park and commenced the construction of a new Polyamide 6 installation in September 2015.
Although the involvement of Grupa Azoty in the life of local communities has already reached impressive proportions, we have no intention of resting on laurels. We are constantly seeking new ways to cooperate with public administration units. For example, the energy and water distribution infrastructure whose full capacity is not used by Our Works in Tarnów can be used for new joint projects with the local government. If the municipality uses our infrastructure instead of building its own connections, both sides are going to benefit from cooperation.
Grupa Azoty regards such opportunities as paving the way to closer cooperation between the sectors, and acting for regional development.
